Thank You
The SCJF wants to thank all the wonderful people who attended and participated in this year's successful festival. An extra big T'HANK YOU goes out to all our volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year so our children may have a memorable musical experience.
The enthusaism that surrounded both days and nights of the SCJF kept spirits flying and the music swinging. We all experienced outstanding musicianship from the visiting school ensembles, learned new concepts from our Master Classes and were treated to world class performances from internationally reknown trumpeter Allen Vizzutti who appreared at the SCJF courtesy of the fine folks at Yamaha Musical Instruments. They truly rocked our world with their kindness.
This was our first year in the new Cabrillo College VAPA (Visual And Performing Arts) facility and I am extremely happy with the flow and pace of the festival. There were a few glitches that will need to be ironed out, though. One of the first things the SCJF will address will be positioning tables to sell access buttons at each venue. There were problems with people not being able to see their children play the short, 30 minute sets so having the option of buying a button at the door of each venue may help. Also, with so many outstanding school bands qualifying to perform, our Command Performance could run into the wee hours of the morning. Our thought is to now add a second (and maybe a third?!) venue for our evening Command Performances. Offering all our students more opportunites to perform live in front of a large audience in a world class venue is something the SCJF firmly believes in.
The SCJF is also discussing new ideas: more Master Classes such as recording arts technology; an outdoor stage with drum set, amps and keyboard where students can throw together impromtu jam sessions during the day; expanded food court; an area for musical instrument manufacturers. The next SCJF will be our 25 th anniversary and we really want to throw a spectacular celebration. If you have suggesstions and ideas we would love to hear them. The SCJF is about providing a positive experience for your student musicians as well as for the entire family. No idea is too crazy for us!
Again, thank you for making the 24th annual SCJF a success and we look forward to really kicking out the jams next year.
Keep swinging,
Dan Young, President
